We are fully insured and licensed by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council under The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.
We adhere to a full suite of policies and procedures relating to infection control, risk assessment, dog assessment and our therapeutic model. Please let us know at any time if you would like to see our documentation or discuss any questions or concerns.
We have been involved in the development or amendment of local NHS policies and procedures around bringing animal-assisted interventions into health and care settings, as we are strong believers that AAI should be as safe, ethical and effective as possible from the patient, professional and animal perspectives.
As detailed in our Therapy Dog Policy, we carry out quarterly assessments on all of our organisation's dogs, which cover behaviour and health (including zoonoses/infection control concerns) in detail. We take into account the health, age, past behaviour and temperament of the dogs, in order to ensure the best experience for both our clients and our dogs. Our assessment is based on the work of Rise Van Fleet, the leading expert in animal assisted therapy globally, and recent national policies and advice such as the most recent guidance from the Royal College of Nursing (2025). All of our species are health, risk and temperament checked regularly for both their safety and that of our clients.
